So you have the option of either leaving the hardware exposed and visible on the face of the wheel or hidden which means it would only be visible if you look inside the barrel. Here is a picture of my wheel with exposed hardware with hidden hardware the lip where the bolts are otherwise visible on the outside would be clean:
