Why my 6GC bootlid get so dirty

Many of you may have figured this out already - the 6GC is a stunning looking car but if you have a long stretch of squally weather as we have had in the UK, it's quite amazing how quickly the car gets filthy. Part of it is down to the low stance so simply more gets covered by splashes. But I have been wondering about the bootlid until I was washing my car down this evening.

Basically, like the previous BMWs I have owned, any runoff from the roof and rear screen of the car should channel down and around the bootlid to drain out near the bumper. But on the 6GC, the rubber seal is packed round the bootlid so the slightest runoff actually runs off the top of the bootlid. So if it rains lightly all day, and water is standing on your car whilst it's parked in the wet there is a pool on the bootlid from the runoff.

Frankly the best £350 I have spent on this car is to have it sealed with a nano glass coating Modesta BC05 that goes on the bodywork and alloys (other products from Modesta on glass, tyres, interiors) that keeps the high gloss finish and alloys sparkling for longer.
