The OP had only asked about transmissions. But since you mention it, "identical" is a bit too strong. Although both the 640 and 650 are available with the ZF HP 8-speed, they are not identical. The 640 comes with a lower torque spec tranny HP45Z whereas the 650 comes with the HP70Z to handle the additional torque of the V8. Not that this is significant from the consumer's standpoint, but I like to be accurate.
Similarly, V8 models have slightly stiffer front springs to compensate for the heavier engine, although you are correct that all models (640s, 650s and the M-Sports), except the M6, have the same suspension tune (give or take DDC, which is standard in the US.)
