I did this 12 months ago. Went from a 3 year old 640d to new M4. Lasted 6 months and now back in a 640d. Wanted something a bit more special with more exciting ride.
Good things about M4:
Cornering awesome, acceleration, noise, you know you've got something special and it attracts a lot of attention.
Why it didn't work for me:
30 mile commute each way and I got tired of hard suspension, noise and less refined interior - and you can end up driving it like a go-kart!
Shame really because it is an awesome car with good economy for the performance. I miss it and if commute was shorter, maybe it would have worked out for me.
