How do you know it's used 1/4 litre so exactly? If it has done in 35 miles you've got problems. A new engine should use less oil as it's still tight.

Our 2015 M6GC has used no oil in 8000 hard miles since run in service.

But my previous E63 AMG 5.5 V8TT used a lot, a litre every 2000 or so.

Modded and tuned 335i before that used hardly any. 330i before that used quite a bit.

I had all 4 cars from new and ran them in properly, not super careful, but sensible. I think its more about manufacturing tolerances on engine parts, some work out good and pass less oil, some not so.
