The LEDs are the must-have option for me - maybe even more than M Sport (although it would kill me to give it up).
If you need a reason to justify getting the LEDs, then yes, they're a "safety feature." They do improve illumination at night between the daylight-like lighting and the corner illumination.
Despite the safety benefits, they're worth every penny. They change the whole look of the car (M Sport or not), and I can't see spending 6er money on a car and drawing the line at these headlights.
