Could not agree more. While I have no perfect evidence, it would seem to me that MOST people with excessive oil consumption issues babied their car for the first 1,200 miles.

Of course, the theory behind the hard break-in method is that it needs to be done in the first 30 or so miles (I seem to remember) and of course, with an engine warmed to temp.

And finally, none of this applies to the brakes -which DO in fact need a soft break-in period.
