The first code does not show on the list. Also there are two engines possible so I have included the diagram for both.

2007 BMW 640 codes P1727, P0335, P0597, P0021

code P1727 – No information listed there is a P1721. Check to see if you have the wrong code number (is “7” really a 1 ?).

Possible Fault Causes
DME detects camshaft teeth but no crankshaft teeth: Short to ground or battery voltage, wire off. Crankshaft sensor failure. Signal fault (spikes, etc.) or intermittent contact in one camshaft sensor wire.

Repair procedures (plant/service)
Check plug / wiring harness, check geometry of sensor and reluctor, replace sensor as indicated

MIL illumination/CC message/emergency program
MIL on in 2nd driving cycle VVT emergency default mode (max. stroke) active VANOS emergency default mode (spec. 120°) active RPM sensor emergency default mode active
Remarks
VANOS intake and exhaust sides remain at travel limits (120° offset). Revisions to application still pending for E70.


DTC P0597: Thermostat Heater Control Circuit/Open (SIG)

Fault debouncing = Entered immediately
Terminal conditions = KL_15 = true
Voltage conditions = none
Temperature conditions = - 10.5 °C< tmot < 114.8 °C
Time conditions = Intake VANOS at travel limits > 5 sec. (K_VNS_ADEND)

System test = none
Signal information = none
Calculated value Y/N = Yes

Possible Fault Causes
Seized solenoid valve (contamination or mechanical defect). Binding or seizure in VANOS adjustment mechanism. Contamination. Chain length. Reluctor shifted on camshaft. Can be collateral fault from camshaft sensor fault if camshaft sensor fault and VANOS fault are logged simultaneously.

Repair procedures (plant/service)
Test sequence (check to determine whether fault is still present after each step):
1.If corresponding camshaft sensor fault has been logged, start by checking camshaft sensor
2.Check VANOS valve for contamination
3.Check reluctor position
4.Check chain length and tension

MIL illumination/CC message/emergency program
US: Standard OBD fault; MIL on after 2 driving cycles, transmits to scan tool; no EPCL; delete fault after 40 warm-up cycles ECE: AS US but no MIL
