Well I have some good news for you, it's dead easy to get Spotify on your iDrive. It was the first thing I did when I got mine. Check out
https://github.com/BimmerGestalt/AAIdrive/ you can install the AAIdrive app from the google play store and its straightforward from there.
As your car is a little older you'll need to connect via usb, but that's not a massive chore.
